Mercury would enter the pony car market in 1967 with a luxury oriented restyled Mustang. The 1967 cougar featured sequential rear turn signals, hidden headlights, and a three inch longer wheelbase than Mustang. The base price for the 1967 Cougar was $2,851, or you could upscale to the XR-7 for $3,081, and get leather seats, woodgrain dash, and full instrumentation. Cougar sold 150,893 units in the first year.
