American Motors sales drop to 8th place in the industry. Production for the 1964 calendar year, according to American Motors, was 393,863 units.
1964 Ambassador
All Ambassadors are 990 series for 1964, equipped with the 327-cid V-8. Total production for the 1964 Ambassador was 18,519.

1964 Ambassador 990-H Ad
A 990-H hardtop coupe was also available priced at $2,917. Standard equipment included bucket seats and a 270 hp version of the 327-cid V-8 engine.

1964 Classic 770 Typhoon
The 1964 Classic 770 Typhoon was a limited edition two-door hardtop. Only 2520 Typhoons were built, they were all painted Solar Yellow, with classic Black roof. All were equipped with the new AMC 232-cubic-inch six-cylinder, producing 145-hp. This was the largest production six-cylinder engine in America in 1964.
