In a marketing effort to become a style leader, American Motors cars would be built with custom interiors during the '70's by recognized names in fashions. Aldo Gucci was hired to design the interior for the Gucci Sportabout. Built with custom vinyl red, green, and buff upholstry, and a Gucci badge, only 2584 of these wagons were built for the 1972 model.
