The safety controversy contributes to nearly a fifty percent sales decline for Corvair. The Monza Sport Coupe was the best selling Corvair for 1966.
Corvair Baby was one of the Chevrolet promotional songs performed by Paul Revere and the Raiders, in 1966. A special complimentary 45 rpm record was released, and could be obtained at no cost at the local Chevrolet dealers. Recorded on side one of this 45, was Corvair Baby, and SS396, on side two.

One of the most popular bands of that time, Paul Revere and the Raiders were contracted by Chevrolet for promotional music. Later, they would do spots for Pontiac GTO Judge TV commercials. Watch the band perform their 1966 hit, "Kicks" on television.

Chevrolet continued to experiment with the corvair electric car, as well as building an Electrovan model. On of the problems with electric vehicles has been the weight. GM used a new silver zinc battery technology that increased the weight of a Corvair by only 800 pounds, while lead acid batteries would have added closer to 2,600 pounds. The Corvair research was not intended to become a production Corvair, but contributed to the designs of production vehicles like the Chevy Volt.

John Fitch was another independent builder that enjoyed working with the Corvair chassis.
