Improved handling due to changes to the rear suspension, and a larger 164 cid flat six producing 95 hp was standard on the 1964 Corvair.
GM experiemented with an electric powered Corvair (Electrovair). The problem was the same that has plagued the electric vehicle design from the begining - the batteries. Keeping the weight manageable, generating enough power, charge time, cost, and reliability were all considerations. Chevrolet would continue the project with a 1966 Corvair (Electrovair II), and the 1964 Electrovair would become known as Electrovair I.
35,806 Convertible Corvairs were produced in 1964, including 4,761 that were built as Spyders.
